Opening Session - Painting the Digital Canvas
Presenters: Dr. Julie McElhany and Joe Shipman
The opening session of Digi-Faire 2011 will provide attendees with a clear picture of Texas A&M University-Commerce’s current digital demographics based on data collected from both our students and university faculty. Participants will see the compiled results of a recent study showing technology fluency, adoption of technology, technology trends, learning patterns, student/faculty expectation and current student/faculty connectivity levels. Faculty, administrators and students alike will greatly benefit from this session.
Cloud Computing
Presenter: Kai Dupé
This will be an interactive session of the use of cloud computing using the web 2.0 application “Dropbox”. The presentation will be streamed “live” by a recent graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce. The practical functionality of “Dropbox” for use in the context of education will be highlighted.
Mobile Learning
Presenter: Rich Park
This will be an interactive session of the use the iPod Touch for mobile learning. The presentation will demonstrate the use of mobile apps for educational purposes as well as Internet functions of this device within a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Learning using Screen Capture Software
Presenter: Dr. Wade Fish
This session will teach you how to provide audio feedback on student assignments using Jing. Through this free innovative resource, you are also able to deliver instruction to students in a timely manner. You will learn how to record full-motion video from your computer screen and upload these videos straight to YouTube or Screencast.
Mathematics at a Distance
Presenter: Dr. Hasan Coskun
Dr. Coskun’s session will demonstrate the utilization of technology to aid in the mastery of mathematics.
Engaging Students through ClassLive Pro
Presenter: Dr. Steve Shwiff
Dr. Shwiff’s session will demonstrate the use of ClassLive Pro to engender student-to-student and student-to-faculty interaction.
Integrating Technology in Instruction: Web 2.0
Presenter: Jasna Aliefendic
One of the most important task for every educator is to effectively communicate with all students. Due to different personalities and learning styles, this task was always difficult. However, Web 2.0 tools have created a new communication sphere where students can express them selves at anytime from anywhere. This presentation will show successful implementation of some of the most popular web based tools at K-12 as well as at the university level.
